Christmas to New Years Update:

According to many advertising flyers this period is now know in Canada as:

BOXING WEEK!

Mainly because the traditional Canadian Boxing Day Sale is now spread over a longer period of time to allow more people to enjoy the ritual.

Also: No I do not know why they call it Boxing Day. My favourite theory is because its the day you hand a Christmas box to people who deliver to your house like the mailman, the milkman, the iceman, the heating oil/coal delivery man, grocery delivery boy, the Brown Santa delivery person and his ilk, the newspaper boy and the telegram delivery boy.

My understanding is that Boxing Day is called Boxing Day because it was/is the day that gifts were given to staff (servants), tenants and other non-family dependents.

They have a good track record for being correct....

And even they're (http://www.snopes.com/holidays/christmas/boxing.asp) not 100% certain.
