Social Capital

The book Bowling Alone talks about how we all have social capital and how we invest it.

An example in the book is how an Ypsilanti man found an organ donor through his bowling league thus extending his life.

I have been thinking about how I have invested my own social capital.

In Sarnia I have spent it on my family but have not had much success with investments in friends. It seems they move away or that I am peripheral to their lives hence I do not see them much.
On the other hand my out of town investments have been quite good however they are at closest an hour's travel away and as I get older I find I have to spend more physical capital to get at my investment.

How have you spent your social capital?

The March of Technology

September 2003 will be the month technology finally forced me to consider buying a new computer since many of my friends are in love with the new lj skin which computer cannot read well at all.

It loves the old Lynx skin though.

Now I have to wonder what to buy and how to pay for it.
