Thursday, May 1st, 2008 The rich get richer and the poor get poorer
I think we are seeing the result of the flight of high paying entry level manufacturing jobs from the North American economy. The jobs lost were union regulated manufacturing jobs and the new jobs are entry level nonunion cyberserfs that work in places like call centres and the service industry.

Monday, June 2nd, 2008 It was twenty five years ago today!
Well more or less, that I graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Arts degree specializing in the study of history.

Generation Kill the TV Series:

Based on the book by the same name about an imbedded correspondent from "Rolling Stone" named Evan Wright experiences in Operation Iraqi Freedom with the 1st Recon Marines. I spent part of my weekend watching the whole thing on DVD while trying to get over my cold.

If you have seen it or the read the book I would be interested in your thoughts. I think many of the problems shown were similar to those of the Special Air Service in the Gulf War. A unit used to operating in stealthy small groups under NCO'S was formed into larger units and there was much chafing by the NCO's used to operating on their own. Also the change in mindset from hiding and watching to moving and shooting.
