In this case we are being propped up by natural resources and a federal budget surplus, obtained however in part by cutting social programs.
However now there is evidence that Americans themselves are shrinking:

Apparently the growth of the American economy has been at the cost of American's health. Working longer hours is fueling productivity but this could be leading to more fast food, less exercise and lower nutrition.
Europeans are now on average taller than Americans reversing what had been an American advantage.
