The Sarnia Branch of the Lambton County Library is located at 124 Christina Street South, Sarnia, Ontario, one hour northeast of Detroit, Michigan on I-94 and one hour west of London, Ontario on Highway 402. GenreCon is part of The Need to Read Festival.

12 Noon to 1 PM
West Room Creating the Hero or the AntiHero Part 1:
Main characters are usually the anchor on which any story relies. The writers will talk about where their main characters came from and how they were developed. At the end of the discussion the audience can choose a picture, list words describing a person in it and write a paragraph putting the words together and voila: a character is born. At 5:00 PM we will have a follow up where people will then read their paragraphs.
Jeff DeLuzio Moderator, Suzanne Church, Dennis Collins, Terry Carroll

1 PM to 2 PM
West Room My First Sale
Getting paid to write is one of the goals of any writer. How have our panelists done this? What obstacles did they have to overcome? What advice do they have for other writers?
Suzanne Church Moderator, Rick Blechta, Dennis Collins, Eric Choi, Caitlin Sweet

Theatre Presentation of the movie “Heavy Metal” followed by discussion

2 PM to 3 PM
West Room The Autobiographical Voice
Making the reader believe a story is in some way autobiographical is a popular mainstream literary device. Is it applicable to genre fiction? What's it like to write these stories? Do they work only for certain types of writers? What are the techniques? Can this be done covertly as well as overtly?
Rick Blechta Moderator, Suzanne Church, Jeff DeLuzio, Caitlin Sweet

3 PM to 4 PM
West Room The Small Press
Is the small press a breaking ground for new writers, or a trap for those who can't cut it in the big world of publishing? Who and what is the small press, why is does it exist, where can it be found, and how to use it as both a reader and a writer.
Terry Carroll Moderator, Suzanne Church, Dennis Collins, Eric Choi,

Theatre Presentation of the short films of “The Animatrix.” To be followed by a discussion

Hell, I may just get in the van and start driving on Friday night. Do you think I could make it in a mere 12 hours? Wish I had a co-driver, but miserable hubbie is off to a Ren Faire, how dare he? I'm supposed to be novel-editing, but this year's Genre Con looks so good, I just may play hookie!

You all give me a full report with all writing pointers!
