GenreCon 2008 Final Schedule:
GenreCon, a free literary convention featuring several notable editors and authors, returns to Sarnia Library on Saturday, May 3rd.
Providing fans and local authors with the opportunity to talk with other genre fans and authors, GenreCon presents a wide range of panels on writing, reading and publishing genre fiction, including mystery, horror, fantasy and science fiction. There will also be book signings and sales.
The Sarnia Branch of the Lambton County Library is located at 124 Christina Street South, Sarnia, Ontario, one hour northeast of Detroit, Michigan on I-94 and one hour west of London, Ontario on Highway 402. GenreCon is part of The Need to Read Festival.

West Room Meet and Greet Reception
12 Noon to 1 PM
West Room Creating the Hero or the AntiHero Part 1:
Main characters are usually the anchor on which any story relies. The writers will talk about where their main characters came from and how they were developed. At the end of the discussion the audience can choose a picture, list words describing a person in it and write a paragraph putting the words together and voila: a character is born. At 5:00 PM we will have a follow up where people will then read their paragraphs.

Making the reader believe a story is in some way autobiographical is a popular mainstream literary device. Is it applicable to genre fiction? What's it like to write these stories? Do they work only for certain types of writers? What are the techniques? Can this be done covertly as well as overtly?
