I am looking for as many different movies as possible where two relatively normal people fall in love and survive to enjoy it.

I am thinking of movies like:

The Sure Thing

Say Anything

Vision Quest

Not my favorite...

but there are certainly a few good ones:

When Harry Met Sally
Sleepless in Seattle
Breakfast Club (not sure if it's exactly what you had in mind, but it fits the criteria)
One Fine Day

I'm also tempted to mention The Terminator, but I don't that those people would fit your definition of "normal". :-)

Two relatively normal people? Does this mean you're excluding any movie with fantastic elements (adventure, historical setting, the earth being shattered by a large meteor, etc.)? And you're also excluding the stories where love does not end happily, right? And does the love story have to be the primary plotline? Or would something like It's a Wonderful Life count?

Exactly, no fantastic elements ala Bladerunner and a relatively happy ending unlike English Patient or Lone Star.

Another example would be:

The Accidental Tourist.

Nope not the Terminator,

When Harry Met Sally is what I was thinking of.

You'll never get this plot line past any movie studio. Where is the conflict? The character development? The hook to bring 10 million plus people into the theaters?

If two relatively normal people fall in love and survive the experience, there has to be a lot of other conflict going on, such as the end of the world or at least this corner of it.

Does _Shrek_ count?

so

no galaxy quest or howard the duck...

okay.

what about borderline cases like ever after and coming to america (or royal tenenbaums)?

others...

romance-centric...

shag
dirty dancing
16 candles
sex lies and videotape
desperately seeking susan
four weddings and a funeral
boomerang
blue lagoon

romance on the side...

about a boy
pump up the volume
fish called wanda
bend it like beckham
adventures in babysitting
american pie

questionable happy ending...

dangerous beauty
anna and the king

how about harold and maude or romeo and juliet?
what about earth girls are easy?

SPLASH!!

...that's all for now

No I did say people not ogres.

It does make a good statement about accepting your partner as they are.

By "normal", do you mean people who aren't abnormally pretty to begin with? Or are you talking the whole romantic-comedy genre? You could do a search for everything Meg Ryan or Julia Roberts ever appeared in, and fill your list right up.

Good movies

I think I had better limit it to good movies.

Not Julia Roberts in Notting Hill or Pretty Woman for that matter,

Yes Meg Ryan in When Harry Met Sally.
