OLA Superconference 2004
Had a good weekend in Toronto at only my second professional conference.
Actually volunteered to work on next years.
One of the things they need is a restaurant guide. They are also thinking of moving their operations office to the same room programming ops used a Torcon.
I went to three panels:
Virtual reference which means using email, forms or chat to answer questions. This was more interesting after I asked them to actually define "virtual reference." Gave me the ideas we need to pull our efforts together.
Blogging for librarians apparently you can use blogs to build up your career! One of the top columnists of library tech Stephen Cohen was on this one. All the speakers were very dynamic!
A book talk on graphic novels. This included some titles I had heard like Astro Boy and The biography of Louis Reil and some new to me. I think we are going to be buying these in the near future.
I also ended up with eight free books which I am going to donate to the library. I also bought an autobiography of Judith Merrill the godmother of Canadian SF even if she was born in NY she adopted us as her own.
Of the vendors there I spent most of my time talking to a group representing small presses (who gave me most of the free books) and the owner of the Beguiling a comic book store. You can really dine out on all the candy the vendors offer. The vendors room was very cozy to promote the idea of large numbers of people in attendance.
