Is it evil to spend a day in the house doing nothing much?

By nothing much I mean playing computer games, watching TV, listening to the CBC, talking to people on chat and folding laundry.

I mean I woke up this morning with muscle pain, like I do most mornings, but a bit of exercise seems to clear that. However then I seem to lack the ambition to do anything else.

I think I need that vacation at the end of the month.

Do any of you out there take down time and feel guilty? or do you do it and not feel guilty or are you always active?

Down-time...

The vast majority of my evenings and weekends are spent at home, in front of the TV or LiveJournal. If I had more things to go out and do, I would go out and do more things! Sometimes I feel guilty when I talk to some of my hopelessly, tragically overscheduled friends. I'd like a few more activities in my life, but I wouldn't want to live like they do! I like my free time, but still, I do get bored sometimes...

Hmm. It's interesting. My personal theory on this one is that you need to take time for yourself, and just spend it doing whatever you want. Today, for example, I didn't plan to do anything at all. So I'm not feeling guilty that I spent about three hours watching bad TV. The tricky bit is remembering that you're allowed to have relaxing time, even if you have things on your To Do list. If you forget that you're entitled to "Me Time" it's really easy to start feeling guilty.

No matter how busy your life may be, or how many responsibilities you have, it's always important to take time for yourself. And if that time consists of doing absolutely nothing then it's perfectly okay. The only thing that matters is that it is satisfying to YOU!

The occasional day of puttering around doing nothing of consequence is restful. I don't feel guilty for having the occasional day like that, but I do feel guilty if I have a long to-do list that I'm ignoring to do nothing. If I have more than the occasional day, I start feeling like I'm wasting my life.

Doing nothing is good, Jeffrey. You obviously needed it. I have to say that, coming off a week of reading for pleasure not for work.

I need a day off now and then. I expect you do, too. =) I think it only gets problematic when you are taking more than one or two days off each month. That might be indicative of depression.
