What I did that Tammy did not.

Thursday

Got Kaffeklatches organized and attended those of Connie Willis who was as cool as always and I finally got to meet her husband Courtney and daughter Cordelia. Court is a college professor and Cord is a criminalist in San Jose and both are very smart and very cool except Cort was dressed as Robin Hood for some reason.

Also went to Alistair Reynolds' klatch he is a Brit author and astronomer in the Neth for the ESA. The book I have of his is Chasm City. He is also very cool except around Gene Wolfe of whom he is in awe.

I met V Thursday night after losing Tammy and E in the crush and followed her around. We ended up at the Winterfell Party hosted by George R.R. Martin and his fan club. They had a good mix of people and good alcohol. After it closed the TAFF winner Tobes Valois from the Isle of Jersey invited myself, J from Norway, A from Sweden, a token Yank and of course the Lovely E back to his room for Calvados and conversation. This took us up to the wee hours.

Friday I spent learning I was chafing with regular Klatch person so I helped a bit went to Stan Robinson's klatch very cool and learned we should not invite him as a guest until his kids are older.

Went out for Thai with Anne and E which took longer than expected since I got confused by the San Jose street grid. Dinner was excellent. Partying was good too. This night or Thursday night I learned one shoulder is higher than the other and I should do something about it. Higher because I probably broke it wrestling in high school.

Saturday I spent wandering around talking to people mostly. I found Sean Stewart has moved from Houston to Davis Cal. to raise kids next to Stan.

I went to one of the last panels cuz four of my favourite authors were on it: Joe Haldeman, Walter Jon Williams, Stan Robinson and Robert Charles Wilson. The discussion was of destroying Earth to rebuild it better. Topic was not great but the discussion was.

After a quick dinner with E we went to the masquerade. Hmmm well it was amusing but no show stoppers like in the old days at least no constant repetition of cows like last time.

Parties went well we started from the bottom at Kelly Freas' BD party and worked our way up to our room and went up from there. E and I both qualified at the LA06 party E on the grenade launcher and I on the Gatling Gun. Everyone's scores went up after I showed them how to fire bursts.

I closed the night at the TOR party talking to their art director Irene Gallo and then joined up with Tammy's group.

I did not hear of the Melbourne bid until late Sunday and did not join until early Monday Morning.

Sunday PM I helped put together the Post Hugo party with the Torcon people and got to know Peter and Athena Jarvis. They seem very nice with a good sense of humour, from our Maritimes.

I made sure we replicated the Tor party layout and made sure the light levels were low and the drapes open after dark, also tried to organize the beverages.

The party went well but I was so busy I never realized Neil Gaiman had made our scene.

Well more later its time for Be
