Well more or less, that I graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Arts degree specializing in the study of history.

I would have to say applying to and then going to the University of Toronto was the biggest risk and best decision that I have ever made in my life.

I received a degree from one of the best universities in Canada and one that did not expel me unlike some of the other schools I could have gone to.

Going there exposed me to ways of thinking and knowledge I continue to use and put me in touch with the science fiction community that continues to form the bulk of my none work life.

Why would you have been expelled?

Low marks, I had marks low enough to have been expelled from the University of Western Ontario, the University of Toronto was much nicer back then and by fourth year I was doing well enough to get into library school at Western.

I had friends from high school who went to Western and Guelph my third choice who were expelled for low marks, oddly they had higher averages than me in high school.

Been there too - I was on academic probation my second year at my university, barely avoided that in the first year. Like you and your friends, I did really well in high school, but the problem was that I had never learned how to study or work in a sustained way - no discipline or good habits required when basic smarts or displaying a modicum of interest was enough to get you through high school. It helped that I was doing pre-engineering at the time too, something for which I was absolutely not fitted.

Good for you for sticking to it. The world is a better place for your contributions. Happy 20th anniversary!

Twenty five years? Wow. It's been twentyfive years for me as well. Now I'm feeling old.
