Following along with James Nicoll's survey of Locus First Novel Award winners and nominees I realized how often I would pick up a science fiction of fantasy paperback and often then buy it merely because it had a Darrell K. Sweet cover.

Here is a link to a Google image search of his work:

I miss his old style on covers and he does no seem to sell any of his older work:

He was nominated 18 times for Locus best artist between 1976 and 1994.

Darrell was the Artist GoH at NASFiC last year (Tuckercon/Archon). I got to talk to him for a while and I believe that John O'Neill will be running a cover by him on Black Gate at some point.

Rumor is that Sweet's artwork has a much higher sell-through rate than most other artists.

I am surprised he has fallen off the radar Locus awardwise.

Good to hear that he is still active in the field.

Two were big favorites of mine, the cover for A TALENT FOR WAR (by Jack McDevitt) and the second INHERIT THE STARS (by James P. Hogan). Wonderful work!
