So who out there besides me and Elizabeth May:

thinks the Liberals, NDP and the Bloc should form the next government?

If it was good for MacKenzie-King after the 1925 election why can't it be good enough for us now?

I have voted in every federal, provincial and municipal election since I turned 18.

I have also served on two different university student councils and the board of my condo.

Just another of the many reasons you are such a truly great guy! I have missed a few elections myself, but only a very few, possibly one or two.

Does participating on my junior high student council count?? I am soooo old

Unlikely as the Bloc really aren't into running the country -- they're seperatists.

I don't see it happening. Regardless of the retoric, Jack Layton's main political rival is Dion not Harper. The Liberals is where he will get any new votes. I think Layton would want the dissolution of the Liberals as much if not more than the Conservatives want it. The collapse of the Liberals in Manitoba in the 60s led to a seesaw between the Conservatives and the NDP while the Liberals are reduced to a token seat or two. Layton is aware of this and has tried to tie himself to Doer.

With the minority situation as it stands, we are pretty much guarenteed a new election in less than two years. Layton will want the NDP to be poised to make the leap to 2nd party or even the government if he can manage it.

Yes, today there is no MacKenzie-King to pull things together.

When it was (more or less immediately) obvious that the Liberals couldn't outright win, but they started to make up some ground, I was speculating on what might happen if the Liberals+NDP+Green could get enough seats for a coalition. It wouldn't be the worse thing ever, and from a real-politik point of view having a coalition could have given the Liberals cover for measures like rolling back the GST cuts...

Unfortunately, I decided that even that wouldn't fly. If the NDP and Liberals are so dog-in-the-manger that they can't even come to an informal agreement of cross-support to prevent vote splitting, then there's no way they could successfully work together on running a government.

I wish we had a party - any party, practically - that had a leader who was a genuine statesman, with a vision for Canada that was more important than just winning the election. (I.e. someone willing to compromise, or even lose, if it was in the best interest of the country.)

Yes I voted. It was tough call for me this year. I'm in Layton's area but I believe he's responsible for where Harper is now and wanting to negotiate with the Taliban.

I didn't get one flyer from Layton or the NDP. No contact what-so-ever.

I think they spent their money in Quebec and BC this time.

Our local campaign had no great amount of outside NDP money.
