Today is the sixtieth anniversary of the invasion of Normandy.

Sixty years ago today thousands of young men mostly in their twenties stormed ashore to begin the liberation of Western Europe. Many of them were wounded some of them ended their lives there on the beach.

Remember that as you go through this summer that sixty years ago one similar summer day or night some young men gave up most of their lives so that you could enjoy that day peacefully.

I was just about to post something similar, Jeff, and will in a moment on my own journal. My parents met during the war, and I have been thinking a lot about them today, especially my mother who died five years ago, just mulling over all that they went through in their different ways. My dad, who is still alive, jokes that he had an easy war,and the way he tells of his escape from France in 1940 is very funny, but when you listen to what actually happened, and cut through to the fact that it all happened to a nineteen year old, it's scary stuff.

1940 was not easy

No I agree there was nothing easy about getting out of France in 1940 unless he did it before May which I seriously doubt.

Its especially amazing when you compare it to your life as a 19 year old.
