If the Republicans have indeed won who do they run in 2008?

Jeb Bush.

Do you think he is electable at the national level?

It certainly looks like the way the White House is through a governor's seat.

When was the last time a non-governor non-vicepresident was president?

The American people love royalty. It's better than thinking, almost as good as Jesus.

Which royalty could the Dems run?

That's where this whole Hillary thing comes from.

Upon thinking it was JFK and Ike before him.

Ike was a war leader not a congressperson and JFK had his family's wealth and image machine behind him plus the old Democratic party.

Before that you have to go back to McKinley to find a congressperson again.

Who would have thought George Bush was electable on a national level.

A number of Republicans who voted for his nomination.

I think its easier for a gov. because their political record is easier to spin positively.

I agree. But I thought you were trying to convince me that Jeb Bush would not be a good choice. He's the governor of Florida, so your argument works against you.

Jeb Bush

Being a Gov. is a plus.

Being Gov. of Florida is not. Too much deal making to be effective.

Also I am not sure of the effect of and on his daughter.

Being a Catholic is also a plus/minus.

Kerry was a Catholic, and I don't think it ever was an issue.

Yes but he is a Democrat.

A Catholic would be something new for traditional Republicans.

It would play well with Hispanics maybe.

If being a Catholic was an issue for Republicans, they would have played it up this year. Since they didn't, I can only assume that Republicans don't care.

A lot can happen in four years, but look for:

Marc Racicot
Tom DeLay
Bill Frist
Rick Santorum
Alan Keyes

Alan Keyes?

Are any of these a state governor?

Racicot is the former governor of Montana who ran Bush's re-election campaign. DeLay is the incredibly powerful House Majority Leader. First is the Senate Majority Leader and Santorum is the House Whip.

Anyone but Frist or Santorum, PLEASE!

(You do know what Santorum's name has been co-opted as, do you not?)

Yes I do.

Ironic that he is the Whip.

John McCain vs. Hillary Clinton would be a very interesting race. I don't think McCain would run again for the nomination though.

I don't think the Dems are going to run Hillary Clinton. They prefer someone who doesn't already provoke a lot of knee jerk rejections.

Maybe, but at least it would be good to run someone with a pulse and at least an ounce of charisma.

Lots of people really like her. But I agree, she'll galvanize the opposition like nobody's business.

I'm one of the people who really likes her. I think she's great. But she's still a fairly junior senator, and I'm not sure a run as first lady makes up for the lack of previous jobs held.

It doesn't really matter who runs, because the chances are high that we either will be:

1. dead

or

2. not allowed to vote unless we manage to fit the white, christian, republican, old-school standards...

I'm personally planning to move somewhere that doesn't hate the U.S. yet. And somewhere far away. Canada's too close... could get caught in the fall-out.

*sigh*
