Detroit Lions problem is The Curse of Bobby Layne?

It's the curse of Bobby Layne unceremoniuosly traded by the Lions after their last NFL championship win way back in the 50's when they were a dominant team.

OK why did the Lions draft 3rd string Charlie Batch instead of current Tampa starter Brian Griese?

There have been times when Batch looked like a better choice than Griese. I'm just pissed that the Steelers used Tommy Maddox instead of him, for which they paid.

I was thinking that was a mistake too.

Maddox was the original starter before Ben so I guess that was why they went to him first.

I also thought Griese could have handled the pressure of being a Lion quarterback better than Charlie because he played in the Big House rather than Ypsi.

Learn something from the Bengals: draft picks are a red herring. Sure Carson Palmer is turning out well, but how many first-round picks did the Bengals burn through before they got to Palmer? And, hell, Marvin Lewis has had a lot more to do with the turn-around than any player has.

If Detroit was smart, they'd trade all their early-round draft picks for proven players.

Seriously, you ever notice how many great players came from schools you've never freakin' heard of? And weren't drafted high? Jerry Rice, Brett Farve?

Sure, the Barry Sanders of the world are amazing in both college and the pros, but look what good it did the Lions to have the greatest running back of all time.

It ain't the picks or the players--it's the team.

The draft is important and you have to draft well.

Most of the Lions recent drafts have been good its the number ones of any team that are overrated except for the Barry Sanders of the league.
