Mine is "A Christmas Story" 1983 with Peter Billingsley as a young boy who wants a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas. Its close to what my Christmases were like when I was that age in a land where there was snow on the ground all winter. I also like the ending and refer to it often when things get tense in my family at Christmas as they often do.

So what is your favourite Christmas movie?

That is definitely right up there among our favorite Christmas movies too. It's a tradition to watch it every year at least once. I suspect this year it will get watched more than once now that Rowan is old enough to enjoy it.

I am almost embarassed to admit it but we rather like "It's a wonderful Life" too. What can I say, I like Jimmy Stewart and who hasn't felt that life would be better off without them at least once in a while?

Holiday Inn is fun but haven't seen it in a few years.

I rather liked Nightmare Before Christmas (?) the Tim Burton film but can't ever decide if it's really a Christmas film or a Halloween film.

The original Grinch is wonderful but the new re-make is horrible, or at least abysmal.

The Charlie Brown Christmas is good. I'd forgotten how much I enjoy those VInce Guaraldi piano pieces if nothing else. :-)

I'm looking forward to seeing what others suggest! I think I'll cop this idea from you and see what my friends list comes up with! :-)

I always liked The Little Drummer Boy as a kid, and the Charlie Brown special. A bunch of those animated kids' specials they did in the 70's were great. I re-saw one last year, where a little reindeer gets sick...? Very cute.

I think I'd have to go with "It's A Wonderful Life". Although there are lots of other Christmas movies I enjoy, this one still prompts very strong feelings even though I've seen it so many times. I guess I just really relate to the message that every life is important and has an important effect on the lives of others. I think everybody needs a little reinforcement of this message, especially around the holidays when some people feel a little melancholy.

I still prefer sweet Russian holiday movies. Last year we discussed "The Irony of the Fate", which have been everybody's favorite for the last 30 years.

The new movie "Love, actually" can join the list of Christmas movies of all times. It's a very sweet, feel-good movie that keeps your smiling happily for a couple of hours.
