Confusion XXX Jeff XI

jeffreyabThis was the 11th Confusion in a row that I have worked on.
It was a lot of fun in spite of the snow storm on Friday. I got there with A and E in the middle of the afternoon so I missed most of the snow. Had no extra help in Program Ops but the compact layout made this not a problem.
When we contemplated moving here two years ago I told tammylc it would change the sociology of the convention and it did. We had more out of towners and more parties on fewer floors. We had big fluffy towels in comfy rooms. We still had fun. I think the only things I miss are the cheap rooms (I can bring my own towels), the breakfast place next door, and being able to scope out the pool scene at the drop of a hat. It has somewhat less function space but next year by rearranging the rooms I think we can have more panels, Friday night anyway.
I made a speech starting the Detroit Science Fiction Hall of Fame Friday night that seemed to go over well, I was really touched that Howard's family came it was interesting to meet them all. All I have to do now is figure out how to sustain it.
Friday night parties were good, the one major panel went well since the two major figures on it disagreed which makes for a lively discussion. The poetry slam was small which I though it would be, the weather did not help, but it was fun.
Ron Westrum the science GOH rocked, he was a consistent big draw, which is good for someone who came in cold no one ever really having heard of him before.
Bruce Sterling was Bruce Sterling, he hung out in the lobby or the consuite when he was not busy, he spoke up at panels, all good things.
Julie Bell and her husband were very nice. They did quite a bit of programming and were nice to everyone who approached them.
Geri Sullivan was everywhere including the hottub. I especially like her report on the High Wierdness Tour of the Hucksters' Room, hopefully she will post it herself. The ultimate wierdness at the con was having the lights going off and on during her speech at opening ceremonies.
Rob Sawyer was everything I had hoped for in a Toastmaster, he did a good job at opening ceremonies and was very good on all the panels.
The only sucky part is that my shoulder pain kicked in Friday night and is still here damn it. The things we do in youth that come back to haunt us in old age.
Well it was fun and I am already looking forward to next year.
