I watch both of these TV shows, both of which show how people deal with a post holocaust situation.

I was watching Jericho last night and realized there are direct analogies between the two shows.

On the one hand we have the Galactica/Jericho where the rule of law still exists and on the other we have the Pegasus/New Bern where the rule of might has risen to the top. Jericho and New Bern being neighbouring towns in western Kansas in the story.

New Bern is building an army to invade its neighbours and uses torture to try and gain information from prisoners, much like the crew of the Pegasus did.

The Pegasus was concerned with making war on the Cylons while the Galactica was more concerned with ensuring the survival of the citizens under its care.

http://www.locusmag.com/Conventions.html

Is a good site, as is the back of Asimov's Science Fiction magazine.

Apollocon is the local Houston convention

http://www.apollocon.org/

Its coming up in June and should be good.

Its run by a couple friends of mine.

Also http://www.armadillocon.org/ in August

and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AggieCon in March.

I found the ApolloCon site. But I figured there had to be more than just that. In St. Louis, we used to have three cons a year, though now we only have two. So I figured Houston must have at least four.

I had also heard about AggieCon, but that's a bit of a distance. The other I had not heard of.

As soon as I get my work schedule figured out, was mulling over volunteering at ApolloCon. I figured they might need to have an off duty cop working security (that's normal for any convention around here), so I thought about offering to do that. But then it might get in the way of having fun, and we can't have that.

I don't suppose you travel this far south for cons, do you?

Thanks for the intel.

I have only been to one Texas con, the 1997 worldcon, which was alot of fun.

Apollocon has only been around 4 years so Houston is very undeveloped that way.

Have you ever run into Nancy Nutt from Kansas City? She is the only MO fan I know really well.

Don't hesitate to contact them about volunteering, with your diverse background they might have something other than security to do.
