The trailer for Metropolitan (1990)by Whit Stillman. The movie is great for getting a view of holiday life in Manhattan for the Urban Haute Bourgeoisie. The movie shows lost NYC landmarks like the Automat and Scribners book store and Checker cabs!

One of the actresses in the movie was a law school classmate of mine.

I know Allison Rutledge-Parisi is a lawyer but she went to Columbia and I thought you went to U of M?

Did you know that Taylor Nichols is from Michigan?

Don't know Taylor Nichols.

Allison did her 1L year at UM, and then transferred to Columbia to be with her boyfriend (who she'd met here -- I think he was a resident, as in, a physician doing post-graduate training). She was fun. We were sad to see her go.

Is she much like her character?

She married in 1995 http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=990CE7D61631F932A25755C0A963958260

Its interesting to see what happened to the actors after what was their first movie.

Sort of the mom, looking out for the others in the group.

She is seen winning the strip poker game.

So also has a sort of lisp.

Here are some clips with her in them:

Ah, good film. I really liked Barcelona as well.

Looks like Stillman has been pretty quiet since Last Days of Disco. Shame.

According to what I could find he is working on multiple scripts but has not pulled the trigger on any.

He also directed an episode of "Homicide: Life on the Streets."

Was that the episode where a bunch of twenty-something academics sit around and talk about Fourier until someone eventually gets murdered?

Yes to the first part and no to the second.

Someone is assaulted and the date rape of an off screen person is referred to but no deaths.
