This year's edition lasted from Thursday to Sunday and was enlivened by my taking on two extra projects at the last minute, fun projects but they interfered with the relaxicon aspect I was going for this year.
Firstly was the Ad Astra party, I was not going to do it but heard we might need more parties so I said what the heck and threw something together on the fly with red and white bunting, Canadian snacks and beer and some Scotch. Most of the time the party was about half Canadians, much fun was had even if no memberships were sold, I think it was good PR. The passport angle is a tough sell. Rennie really hit off with Drew and his friends.

Secondly was the interview with our Science Guests of Honor Ralph Lorenz and Zibi Turtle. I think this went well, I came at from the experential angle, how did they get into science and then planetary science, what that life was like and what other interesting things were they up to.

Still I made it down for the GOH dinner and sat with Diana Stein the Art GOH and her family and Thai food.
Friday was some shopping including DVD's "Saving Grace," "Fortunes of War" and "Open Your Eyes" along with some military reference books, "Axis" by Robert Charles Wilson all on sale.
Set up the party and then went out for Indian food with Steve, David and Allan a bunch of very experienced fans stuffed into a Honda Civic. Came back in time for Cocktails in the Consuite and then on to my party which lasted until 2 AM. IT was fun hanging with Julie, Lou, Mer and Splash.
Spent the wee hours in the hottub getting too warm making it hard to sleep after.
Then it was down to the Green Room to try and do a little prep with Lorenz and Turtle. Went to Zibi's first panel on the Moon Orbital Observer mission coming up in April. It should be quite exciting looking for water on the Moon among other things.
The afternoon was spent wandering around buying things like Regenesis (2009) by Cherryh and a Miskatonic University T-Shirt. Then there was some hanging out in the bar with superfan John Scalzi and supereditor Yanni, retired Marine Dave Klecha whose ear I talked off about "Generation Kill," and some time watching the Green Room. Finally there was the Fan Guest of Honour introduction/induction and the mass signing. The former is a two decade tradition where all the past fan GOH's meet each other and the newby and the latter allowed me to meet some of the literary panelists that I had been emailing with but had yet to meet.

John Scalzi and GOH Cory Doctorow:

Too loopy with lack of sleep to go out for dinner I dined in the consuite and watched a previously unseen episode of "The Venture Brothers." Then it was back to the bar to hang with folks like Kathe, Rick, Cory and then John, Doselle, Toby, Christian, and others. I managed to see some of the costumes, this year's theme was Steam Punk and it was a great success. The winners were a group of lady pirates called the crew of the Zepherus.

Later there was party hopping finished with two hours of pool and hottubbing in the wee hours, meeting new folks and just hanging out.
Sunday was spent sleeping and loading the car. The wrap panel was lively and showed me where I need to speak up more in planning.
All in all a great con and I am really looking forward to 2010.
I hear the Guests of Honour so far are Peter S. Beagle and David Gibbs.

Glad you didn't boil away what with the hot tubs and the Scotch (amazing that your nose had not taken on a redder hue): a classic case of coming back to work to rest!
Peter S. Beagle next year???? Met him for the first time at DragonCon last summer. What a delightful man he is in addition to being one of the great ones of fantasy.
