Life at the Library

What's it like to work in an environment like the Sarnia library? I mean there are a lot of cool people around.
Working in a public library is very interesting because it puts you into contact with a wide cross section of your local community. There are very few social groups that do not use the library. Some of the richest people in town use it as do some of the poorest, though more of the latter but then there are more of them.
You must find some of the characters amusing?
I find them more entertaining and enchanting than amusing. Robert Heinlein's observation in Stranger in a Strange Land that all humour is based on someone's pain kind of ruins humour for me.
I am more a Letterman, South Park and Daily Show kind of person.
Does anybody ever get on your nerves?
Impatient people, esp. on the phone. If we answer your question over the phone we have saved you a trip downtown, but people do not see it that way. Also vexatious questions like this one person who comes in looking for addresses for people that have stopped writing them. The one time we did find someone is was because we found a death notice. That and people who do not wash.
And how did you guys come up with all of the computer names. By using a committee and in some cases a book of unusual names. Most of them begin with a different letter of the alphabet.
